The ocean and what it means to me.
Change.
I grew up by the ocean — the Pacific Ocean. I spent time near the Atlantic, which was very different. Then I went back to the Pacific.
The ocean means many things to me but most notably is that the only constant is change. In order to be adaptable we need to be able to change, just like the tides wash in and wash out in their cyclical patterns. Those things that refuse to change do not survive.
I was born in February and I am a pisces. I was given the name Sereia as a long practitioner of martial arts — Sereia is Portuguese for mermaid. And as it goes, mermaids are symbolic of human transformation: change. It’s all about being able and willing to change. Because when we change, we grow.
I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest today, where the Pacific Ocean is just a 90 minute drive away.
